Interesting Facts:

“Giocche” was an Italian attempt to spell the English word “jockey”, the nickname of the man who handled the horses but also tended the garden and wine cellar.

The vine that shades the stairs to Casa di Giocche today is a remnant of the vines that were grown throughout the farm. The grapes were pressed in the courtyard and the fragrant must was then piped to vats in the tinaio. Later the rich red Chianti wine was refined in great barrels below the floor of the Sala d'Armi, the great hall of the castle proper. Its smell filled the air all fall and winter.
